APC to adopt indirect primary, rules out consensus

  The All Progressives Congress, APC has chosen to adopt the indirect primary election to select its presidential candidate. The ruling party made the decision at its 11th National Executive Committee meeting held at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja. Also, the President, Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the party have transmitted their powers to the National Working Committee of the APC to make decisions for a period of 90 days. Among those who have indicated interest to contest the APC Presidential primary are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. APC to Sell Presidential Forms for N100m

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to sell its presidential form at the sum of 100 million. This was part of the decision reached at the emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja. The breakdown shows that while the Expression of Interest form is fixed at the cost of N30 million, the nomination form cost N70 million. The Party also resolved to begin the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for various electoral offices on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, disclosed this shortly after the 11th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Wednesday. According to the spokesperson, the sale of forms will run from April 23 until May 6, 2022.

PMB redeploys Abdullahi as environment minister

  President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate re-deployment of Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi as the new Minister of Environment with effect from 6th April, 2022. Until his appointment, Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi was the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha who conveyed the appointment in a statement, says the President hopes that the new Minister of Environment would bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment for the growth of the country.

PARTY PRIMARIES: INEC Harps on compliance with the rules

The Independent National Electoral commission, INEC has reminded political parties to adhere strictly to the 14 items contained in the schedule of activities for the 2023 General Elections. A statement by INEC national commissioner for information, Festus Okoye expresses worry that no party has informed the commission of the date of its primary which begins from the 4th of April to 3rd June 2022. The statement adds that parties must adhere strictly to the principles of internal democracy, drawing from their constitutions, guidelines, the Electoral Act and other Regulations and Guidelines issued by the Commission. The electoral body maintains that parties' candidates for the 1,491 constituencies for which elections will be conducted in 2023 must emerge from democratic, transparent and valid primaries, in line with the provisions of Sections 29 and 84 of the Electoral Act, 2022. PDP reacts to Ebonyi Gov sack, nominates replacements

  The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has forwarded the nomination of Iduma Enwo Igariwey as replacement for Governor David Umahi to the independent national electoral commission following his sack by the high court. The party's national chairman Iyorchia Ayu at a media briefing in Abuja said Fred Udeogu has also been nominated as deputy governor. READ ALSO : BREAKING: Court Sacks Ebonyi state governor, Deputy over defection This followed a Federal High court ruling that ordered Ebonyi state Governor Dave Umahi and his deputy, Eric Igwe, to vacate their sits as the sitting governor and deputy on grounds that the PDP won the election on March 2019 and not its candidate. Having defected to the APC, the court ruled that Governor David Umahi And his Deputy Eric Igwe cannot transfer the mandate of the PDP to the APC.

Osun 2022: Adeleke emerges PDP candidate

  Senator Ademola Adeleke Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the Osun PDP governorship primary election held at the Osogbo township stadium. The governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16. The PDP primary, held at the 10,000 capacity Oshogbo stadium, was also contested by Dotun Babayemi. The primary election held amid allegation of bias and litigations which could have stalled the process. Senator Adeleke was also the PDP’s flagbearer in 2018 when he lost to incumbent Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress. POLIRENA however, observed that a parallel primary election by a faction of the party also held in the state capital.
