  Candidate of the all progressives congress, APC, Mayokun Lawson Alade is the winner of the Akure North/ South Federal constituency bye election. Announcing the scores in the keenly contested election, the Returning Officer, Professor Deji Ogunseni of the federal university of technology Akure, FUTA, declared that the   APC candidate Mayokun Lawson Alade polled 26, 370 votes to defeat his closest rival, Olumuyiwa Adu of the PDP, who scored 24, 201 votes. The seat became vacant in August 2021, following the death of Adebayo Omolafe, also known as "Expensive" The Akure South /North federal constituency bye election in Ondo state has been described as peaceful except for the malfunction of the Bi-Modal accreditation machines in some units.

The Court Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court which set aside the candidacy of Andy Uba as candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 6th governorship election in Anambra State. The appellate court in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Danlami Zenchi dismissed the appeals brought by Andy Uba and the APC against the judgment of the trial court for lacking in merit. The court held that the panel considered all the issues raised by the appellants in the two appeals and resolved all against the appellants. Counsel to Moghalu, Chris Uche SAN asked the court to affirmed the December 20th, 2021 decision of the lower court. The State House of Assembly confirmed the nomination of Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau as the new Deputy Governor of the state. The nominee is the National Assembly Member representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District. This followed the impeachment of the Former Deputy Governor, Mahadi Aliyu Gusau by the Assembly earlier today. First lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari A new record has been set in the history of Nigeria as the Senate received an “August visitor” in the Nigerian first lady, Aisha Buhari, during its plenary on Wednesday. It was at event where the Senate Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria 2022 laid its report before the Senate. The report presented by the Chairman of the committee and deputy President of the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege was also witnessed by the Minister of women affairs, Pauline Tallen, that of Finance Zainab Ahmed and other top female government officials, who were in company of the first lady.   President Muhammadu Buhari Barring any last-minute change, President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to sign the long-awaited Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021, this Friday. Authoritative   Presidency sources confirmed that the President would be performing his duty of assenting to the bill around 12pm. Public anxiety had mounted, in the last few weeks, over President Buhari's delay in assenting to the re-amended bill, as some members of the public as well as some critical stakeholders have already concluded that he is withholding assent again.   The National Assembly transmitted the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 to President Buhari on January 31, a second time, having reportedly revised the bill, which he withheld his assent to for some noted reasons. This is contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President, media and publicity, Femi Adesina. Announcing the result at the party's secretariat in Osogbo, The Chairman of the election committee and Kwara state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak said governor Oyetola polled 222,169 out of the 235,550 votes cast.  Oyetola’s top challenger, Moshood Adeoti got 12,921 while Lasun Yusuf, got 460 votes and placed third. The election committee’s chairman said a total of 408,697 voters registered in the primary election of the party, while 247, 207 voters were accredited to vote.  The total vote cast and valid votes were 235,550. Pix Courtesy of Cable News Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the revised electoral act amendment bill into law without further delay. The governors made the demand among other requests in a communique on Monday after a meeting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital. The revised bill was transmitted to the president on January 31, following the rejection of the earlier bill. President Muhammadu Buhari had declined assent to the bill, on which he cited concerns over the recommendation of direct primaries for political parties. The president also said compulsory direct primary for political parties “violates the spirit of democracy”. The amendment bill was reworked and the clause was later removed by both chambers of the national assembly and the lawmakers introduced a clause allowing political parties to elect their candidates using direct, indirect or consensus methods.
