Anambra election: Court dismisses Andy Uba's appeal




The Court Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the judgment of the Federal High Court which set aside the candidacy of Andy Uba as candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 6th governorship election in Anambra State.

The appellate court in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Danlami Zenchi dismissed the appeals brought by Andy Uba and the APC against the judgment of the trial court for lacking in merit.

The court held that the panel considered all the issues raised by the appellants in the two appeals and resolved all against the appellants.

Counsel to Moghalu, Chris Uche SAN asked the court to affirmed the December 20th, 2021 decision of the lower court.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, of the Federal court had in his judgment held that Mr Andy Uba was never a candidate in the poll having emerged from an illegally conducted primary election by the APC.

The court also held that the plaintiff, George Moghalu, succeeded in proving that the APC did not conduct a valid primary election which Mr Uba claimed to have won as the party’s flag bearer in the election.

PARTY PRIMARIES: INEC Harps on compliance with the rules

The Independent National Electoral commission, INEC has reminded political parties to adhere strictly to the 14 items contained in the schedule of activities for the 2023 General Elections. A statement by INEC national commissioner for information, Festus Okoye expresses worry that no party has informed the commission of the date of its primary which begins from the 4th of April to 3rd June 2022. The statement adds that parties must adhere strictly to the principles of internal democracy, drawing from their constitutions, guidelines, the Electoral Act and other Regulations and Guidelines issued by the Commission. The electoral body maintains that parties' candidates for the 1,491 constituencies for which elections will be conducted in 2023 must emerge from democratic, transparent and valid primaries, in line with the provisions of Sections 29 and 84 of the Electoral Act, 2022. Osun 2022: Adeleke emerges PDP candidate

  Senator Ademola Adeleke Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the Osun PDP governorship primary election held at the Osogbo township stadium. The governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16. The PDP primary, held at the 10,000 capacity Oshogbo stadium, was also contested by Dotun Babayemi. The primary election held amid allegation of bias and litigations which could have stalled the process. Senator Adeleke was also the PDP’s flagbearer in 2018 when he lost to incumbent Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress. POLIRENA however, observed that a parallel primary election by a faction of the party also held in the state capital.
